Styles of Indoor Air Handlers
| Unit Style | Description & Best Use |
|---|---|
| Wall Mounted | The most popular indoor mini split unit. Mounted high on a wall, offering excellent airflow. Best for bedrooms and living rooms. |
| Ceiling Cassette | Recessed into the ceiling, showing only a flush grille. Provides 360° airflow. Best for open concepts and commercial spaces. |
| Floor Console | Installed low on the wall near the floor, similar to a radiator. Ideal for rooms with low ceilings, attics, or sunrooms. |
| Concealed Slim Duct | Hidden completely above the ceiling, using short ducts to deliver air through standard vents. Best for strict aesthetic requirements. |
Building a Multi-Zone System?
When selecting multi zone indoor units, there are two crucial rules you must follow to ensure your system works:
-
1
Brand Matching
If you have a Cooper & Hunter outdoor unit, you absolutely must purchase a Cooper & Hunter mini split indoor unit. Communication boards are proprietary. -
2
Capacity Limits
Every multi-zone outdoor unit has a maximum "connected capacity". For example, you cannot connect four 12k BTU indoor units to a 24k BTU outdoor condenser. -
3
Port Availability
Ensure your outdoor condenser has physical ports available. A 3-zone condenser cannot physically accept a 4th ductless air handler.
